Odyssey I wrote for my freshman year
Freshman Odyssey
Gary Smitherman
I call upon the great god Morgan Freeman to tell the epic story which consists of cruel blood thirsty beasts, great suffering, and ultimate destruction? From treacherous caverns, vast lands, the cruel sea, face oblivion. To conquer all odds to require the treasures all others desire. To pass his freshman year.
Our venture begins as our hero sets up for his venture. Word has reached his ears that a great treasure is waiting at the strange island of BHS. The island was like a mystery in a book, you will never stop wondering until you see the last page. Many others have ventured there, none hath returned. “All but one, me.” He thought as he packed his bags. Many stories are from the isle, none good. From giant Cyclopes to the deadly Sirens. But he did not care, oh no, he had bigger plans in mind. After he had acquired his treasure, he can go anywhere, do anything. “I will pass my freshman year!”
Three other men. Kyle, Christian, and Landon. These are the only men who were brave enough to venture along with him to his freshman year. After saying goodbye to all loved ones, the three men got onto the boat. All shaking with sheer excitement, tasting the sweet word in their mouths, “treasure”. These were the only men to accompany him, to fight the great beasts. At the time, the three men were confident in their luck. They were not afraid of a giant Cyclops, or of silly myths like Sirens. All but one. Our hero knew of the dangers that they were going to face. He had no idea if any of them were going to survive. The longer they sailed, the more nervous he became. The sweat on his brow was thick, his body was shaking. He would think “don’t lose your cool, everything will be alright.” As the three other men drifted to sleep, thinking their treasure filled dreams, our heroes mind was only on one thing. How will we survive?
“Captain, we have arrived” they all yelled as they neared the Isle of BHS. The time had finally come to acquire their treasure. They already knew how long they were to find their treasure. From August to June they will be at the Isle, until they will finally return home. As they docked their ship, our hero slowly scanned the isle; he soon heard a distant, but booming screech from something big. Really big. He began to get scared as a child cowering in a closest because of a storm. Reality set in as they walked up to the Isles vastness, as each man began to get scared. The idea of a Cyclops was now terrifying, and the sirens were also a danger. But they all knew their goals; they were going to search each island for their treasure. Their adventure will now begin.
As they neared a dark cavern, each man was now beginning to detect a distinct smell. “Dirty beast” Kyle said, as they walked near the cavern. When they reached the dark hole at the entrance, each man just stared at it. ‘Who will go in first’ one man said, while all others quickly said no. But of course, our hero volunteered, and ventured into the dark cavern, each man following one at a time. The deeper our hero got, the more distinct the smell was. The smell was like someone had thrown up while relieving themselves in the same place. The smell was almost unbearable to the men, each stifling a cough. When one of them sneezed, the cave began to shake. The walls were seeming like they were going to cave in on them, and they each started to sprint farther into the cave. What they saw around the corner was something they will never forget. A beast uglier than Hephaestus and Scylla combined with the head of a pig, the body of a snake, and the legs of a giraffe. It was as the stories were true. It was the terrible monster, Kenneth Jowers.
The monster then screamed in a bloodcurdling voice loud as a bomb exploding, “Welcome to sophomore Geometry fishies, prepare to die in frustration!” The monster outstretched its grotesque snake arms and grabbed Kyle. The monster then threw Kyle to a desk on the wall and started to teach him 12-4, the postulate of spheres! The man screamed ‘‘Oh my god it’s so frustrating!” and his head exploded into a million pieces. The monster then screamed “You get an F!” As the other men watched in horror, the monster began to eat the body of Kyle. Our hero, being as brave as he is, grabbed the two other men by the arms and ran for his life like a little girl running from the boogey man. As the men exited the dark cavern, they got back to the ship and sailed to the next isle, not looking back once. They are looking for treasure, after all.
As they were sailing to the next island of BHS, the captain had remembered a story about this treacherous place. How there were creatures called Sirens in the sea, waiting to entrance any men who dared to venture passed. He slowly started to panic. “If Kenneth Jowers is real, couldn’t the Sirens be real…” He thought, slowly losing his mind. There was something else though, a warning in the story. He mind was thinking as hard as it could, his head straining to find what the warning could be. Then, it hit him. It was in the Odysseys he heard the story, how Odysseus and his men covered their ears with wax. He quickly ran to the nearest candle he could find a broke it into three pieces. “Men, put the wax in your ears if you wish to survive the sirens” Each man began to put the wax in their ears, except for Christian. “I don’t want wax in my ear, it’s not good fashion!” Just then we saw the horror of what was the Siren. It went by the name of Kenneth Tracy. With a terrible scream it said “No homework today kids!” Then Christian sprang out of the boat and swam to the beast with great haste. The monster than began to eat christian while our hero and his last friend sailed away with the wax in their ears.
As the last two men sailed to the very last island, there was only fear in their heart. What if the treasure is not real, but only the monsters? Both men knew that they are both putting their life’s on the line, but they needed to achieve their treasure. As they docked their ship at the last part of their quest, Landon began to get hungry. His hunger rumbled groaned and ached. Landon’s mind was soon filled with the thought of honey-glazed turkey, slowly baking in the oven. His mouth soon began to water, his lips quivered. He needed food right away, or he will soon die. Soon the two men came to the giant mountain they had heard in the story. Both of the men searched for a way to climb the mountain, when Landon soon heard a soft voice. “Landon…dinner time…” Landon forgot all of the warnings he had heard, all of the dangers he had faced. He was so hungry that he had to follow the sweet voice. Landon soon traveled into the forest, slowly following the sound. “Come Landon…a little closer landon…” Our hero saw Landon travel into the forest, and soon became suspicious. He followed Landon closely, watching his every step. Then he saw the last beast he will ever see in his lifetime. The great beast name was Donna Mattney. The beast had a plate of rotisserie chicken. She held out the platter, and Landon took the chicken without thinking and ate the entire thing, and died by choking. Our hero then sprinted back to the boat and sailed home, realizing there was no treasure, and that no one can pass their freshman year.

Everyone has a soul. It is your life that determines how it grows.
